TRADITIONAL MAORI GAMES

KI O RAHI PROGRAMME

Our Kelly Sports Traditional Maori Games Programmes offer students an opportunity to learn something new while extending teachings of Maori culture outside the classroom. This initiative is designed to provide school-aged children with the opportunity to participate in a revival of traditional Maori games. Our goal is for children to experience the holistic aspects of the Maori culture while learning these games. Sessions will include Te Reo learnings, progressive skill coaching and practical game experience. We invite all teachers to participate in our sessions to aid the sustainability and growth of this special link to our Maori heritage.

Through our Traditional Maori Games we are teaching:

Whanaugatanga (relationship building, inclusion and connections), Manaakitanga (kindness and support), Kotahitangi (unity, togetherness, affirmation and praise)

Options for schools include:

  • 6 week in-school Ki o Rahi programme

  • Matariki week themed sports day

  • 6-8 week in-school programme covering several traditional games including Poi Toa Activities and Hand and Movement Games

  • Professional Development for teachers

We’d love to talk to you to discuss what would suit your school best!
