TRADITIONAL MĀORI GAMES Taonga Tākaro

PLUS KI O RAHI PROGRAMME

Our Kelly Sports Traditional Māori Games Taonga Tākaro Programmes offer students an opportunity to learn something new while extending teachings of Māori culture outside the classroom. This initiative is designed to provide school-aged children with the opportunity to participate in a revival of traditional Māori games. Our goal is for children to experience the holistic aspects of the Māori culture while learning these games. Sessions can include Te Reo learnings, progressive skill coaching and practical game experience. We invite all teachers to participate in our sessions to aid the sustainability and growth of this special link to our Māori heritage.

Through our Traditional Māori Games Taonga Tākaro we are teaching:

Whanaungatanga (relationship building, inclusion and connections), Manaakitanga (kindness and support), Kotahitanga (unity, togetherness, affirmation and praise)

Options for schools include:

  • 6 week in-school Kī o Rahi programme

  • Matariki week themed sports day

  • 6-8 week in-school programme covering several traditional games

  • Professional Development for teachers

We’d love to talk to you to discuss what would suit your school best!
